Job Description

What You’ll Bring

  • Basic knowledge of general cleaning principles, cleaning products, and standard cleaning equipment
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing

Key Responsibilities

  • Retrieve items from shelves and storerooms, set up cleaning carts with supplies, and keep carts and storerooms clean and organized to improve efficiency
  • Clean and wipe windows, doors, walls, closets, and fixtures in rooms, public areas, and hallways, using ladders or stools as needed for hard-to-reach areas
  • Wash shower walls and tubs, clean toilets and stall walls if applicable, wipe exposed pipes, and clean mirrors, sinks, and walls for sanitary guest and public restrooms
  • Replace towels, soaps, and room amenities, and restock literature that has been removed, soiled, or torn
  • Wash all hard floor areas (linoleum, tile, etc.) by hand to remove dirt and soiled spots
  • Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and wall hangings, including using a duster to reach vents and ceiling corners to remove dust and cobwebs
  • Strip beds of all linen and remake with fresh items, checking bedspreads, blankets, and bed pads for cleanliness and replacing if soiled
  • Lift mattresses to check for soil between mattresses and under the bed
  • Check closets for cleanliness, wipe closet doors and handles and overhead shelves, and restock guest supplies such as hangers, extra blankets, and pillows
  • Vacuum rooms, public areas, and hallways, using vacuums weighing up to 25 lbs., and lift or move heavy furniture to vacuum carpeted areas including underneath furniture and in hard-to-reach spots
  • Inspect door and window locks to ensure proper working order and immediately alert management to unsecured or unsafe situations
  • Inspect room equipment (TVs, lights/lamps, faucets, radios) to confirm proper operation and report room status and any maintenance deficiencies, in writing, to the Executive Housekeeper
  • Secure and maintain custody of equipment, keys, and supplies at all times to protect hotel property
  • Maintain a friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor throughout each shift
  • Perform other duties as assigned, requested, or deemed necessary by management

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. continually throughout a shift
  • Ability to push, pull, and move levers, equipment, and furniture throughout a shift
  • Ability to work with arms raised above the head throughout a shift
  • Ability to maneuver a fully loaded maid cart, weighing up to 50 lbs., through hallways and into or out of closets throughout the workday
  • Ability to identify minute debris and dirt in poorly lit areas, and to read written instructions and computer print-outs

Work Environment

  • Prolonged strenuous physical activity in an indoor climate-controlled environment
  • Excessive heat and humidity in laundry, inside up to 95% of the shift
