The Shift Engineer is responsible for keeping the property in optimal condition at all times with minimal disruption to guests and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain the hotel air conditioning system, including changing filters, cleaning coils, and replacing motors.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all equipment such as boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, electrical systems, and related components.
  • Take required readings on equipment.
  • Test the cooling tower and record readings.
  • Replace and program televisions as needed.
  • Replace light switches, receptacles, light bulbs, and fixtures.
  • Perform furniture repairs.
  • Replace and repair pumps.
  • Carry out plumbing repairs including clogged drains, copper piping, changing washers, replacing handles, and drain fittings.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams.
  • Trace and repair all types of water lines.
  • Troubleshoot and repair kitchen equipment.
  • Maintain records of repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure work complies with local, state, and federal codes.
  • Test, clean, and repair swimming pools and spas.
  • Paint designated areas.
  • Repair and finish sheet rock and various wall coverings.
  • Repair and program the hotel’s electronic lock system.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Trade school and/or college coursework in a related field preferred.
  • At least one year of progressive experience in a hotel or related field required.
  • Flexible schedule with the potential for long hours as needed.
  • Heavy work capacity, including occasional exertion over 100 pounds, frequent exertion over 50 pounds, and continuous lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with guests and colleagues in a courteous, service-oriented manner.
  • Ability to listen, understand, and address concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Strong multitasking skills and the ability to prioritize departmental duties to meet deadlines.
  • Approach all interactions with guests and staff in a courteous, service-oriented manner.
  • Attend all required hotel meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain regular attendance in line with hotel standards, with scheduling varying to meet hotel needs.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including proper uniform and nametag.
  • Comply with hotel standards and regulations to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Identify problem areas, contribute to solutions, and maximize productivity.
  • Effectively handle problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving issues as necessary.
  • Ability to understand and apply complex information from various sources to meet objectives.
  • Cross-train in other hotel related areas.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Show initiative by anticipating guest or operational needs.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
