Housekeeper
Job Description
Hotel Equities seeks a Housekeeper in Macon, GA (onsite) to clean guest rooms and public areas to established standards, restock supplies, and assist with laundry and hotel operations, with a pay rate of USD 12 - 13 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Retrieve items from storerooms and shelves, set up the cleaning cart with supplies, and maintain carts and storerooms in a clean, orderly condition to support efficient room cleaning.
- Clean and wipe windows, doors, walls, closets and fixtures in rooms, public areas and hallways, often using ladders or stepping stools to reach high spots, to keep the facility clean and presentable.
- Clean showers, tubs, toilets and stall walls as applicable; wipe exposed pipes; clean mirrors, sinks and walls to ensure sanitary guest and public restrooms.
- Replace towels, soaps and all room amenities, and restock literature removed by guests or that is soiled or torn to ensure adequate supplies for arriving guests.
- Wash hard floor areas by hand to remove dirt and stains.
- Dust and polish furniture, fixtures and wall hangings, using a duster to reach vents and ceiling corners to remove dust and cobwebs.
- Strip beds and remake with fresh linens, check bedspreads and blankets for cleanliness, and replace if soiled; lift mattresses to check for soil between and under the bed.
- Check closets for cleanliness, wipe closet doors and handles, restock supplies such as hangers, extra blankets and pillows.
- Vacuum rooms, public areas and hallways, operating vacuums up to 25 lbs, and move heavy furniture to vacuum under and around all areas.
- Inspect door and window locks to ensure proper function and report unsafe or unsecured conditions to management for guest and staff safety.
- Inspect room equipment (TV, lights, faucets, radios) for proper operation and document deficiencies in writing to the Executive Housekeeper for prompt repair or resolution.
- Secure and maintain custody of equipment, keys and supplies at all times to protect hotel property.
- Maintain a friendly, courteous demeanor at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned or deemed necessary by management.
- Assist the laundry department by retrieving soiled linen, sorting into correct loads, using industrial washers, dryers and pressers, and distributing cleaned linen to storage closets or carts.
- Clean patio or balcony areas by sweeping or hosing floors, wiping furniture and fixtures, picking up garbage, and cleaning patio doors and windows.
- Provide assistance to other employees and departments to contribute to the best overall performance of the department and hotel.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Wyndham or cleaning standards.
- Basic knowledge of general cleaning principles, use of cleaning products, and operation of standard cleaning equipment.
- Vision to detect minute debris in poorly lit areas and ability to read written instructions and computer print-outs.
- Upper body strength to lift up to 50 lbs continually throughout an 8 hour shift.
- Dexterity in fingers, hands and upper body to push, pull and move levers, equipment and furniture during an 8 hour shift.
- Ability to work with arms raised above head throughout an 8 hour shift.
- Ability to maneuver a fully loaded maid cart weighing up to 50 lbs through hallways and into/out of closets during the workday.
- Experience with basic residential cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers and carpet cleaning equipment; cleaning cart; ladder or stepping stool; commercial washers, dryers and pressers.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals on a continual basis.
- Prolonged strenuous physical activity in an indoor climate controlled environment, with potential for excessive heat and humidity in laundry.
