Housekeeping Room Inspector
Job Description
Based in Huntsville, AL (onsite), the housekeeping room inspector supervises floors, inspects rooms and public areas, and trains staff to uphold cleanliness standards and guest satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Oversee floor teams and validate room status before turnover in the property management system.
- Coach and train housekeeping staff to consistently meet cleanliness standards.
- Coordinate daily operations and staffing plans to clean guest rooms and public areas.
- Conduct daily inspections of guest rooms and outlets to ensure adherence to the quality assurance program.
- Accept and execute assignments from the Executive Housekeeper or Assistant Executive Housekeeper.
- Prepare weekly inventory, check in supplies, and report discrepancies.
- Notify the Housekeeping Management Team of supply needs and create purchase orders as required.
- Keep the management team informed of relevant department information.
- Assist in the direct training program for new housekeeping employees.
- Complete the daily housekeeping report.
- Follow up on maintenance requests to ensure timely resolution for guestrooms and equipment.
- Maintain a safe work environment by following safety and security policies.
- On slower days or staff shortages, assist with cleaning duties.
- Know opening and closing procedures for the housekeeping department.
- Physically inspect rooms daily to verify brand standards and readiness for guest check-in.
- Provide feedback to Room Attendants on room deficiencies.
- Clean or prepare rooms as needed.
- Ensure maintenance issues are reported immediately.
- Communicate room status to all hotel divisions.
- Support ongoing training across the housekeeping department.
- Promote the brand culture within the housekeeping team.
- Manage rushed or transferred rooms to ensure smooth processing.
- Keep housekeeping carts organized and ready for daily tasks.
- Maintain a guest satisfaction oriented approach and strive for high guest satisfaction.
- Foster teamwork across the department.
- Monitor and log key control procedures.
- Provide guests with information about hotel services, facilities, and amenities.
- Ensure proper use of chemicals and cleaning supplies by supervising usage, training staff, and labeling hazardous materials per regulations.
- Collaborate with the Front Office to ensure guest room satisfaction.
- Accurately report and log Lost and Found items and complete required documents.
- Ensure all storage areas are secured and that housekeeping sheets and the executive housekeeper sheet are submitted to the front desk before departure.
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of public hotel areas.
- Uphold excellence in hotel operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of housekeeping experience.
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
- Experience in commercial cleaning and/or guest services is preferred.
- Working knowledge of cleaning utensils, vacuums, dryers, tools and fixtures.
- Ability to work quickly under pressure.
- Ability to follow directions and instructions.
- English reading proficiency and ability to print and speak simple sentences.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic (add/subtract) when needed.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Physical Demands
- Frequent walking and standing for the entire shift.
- Frequent climbing of stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and carrying.
- Use of hands to operate cleaning equipment and complete scrubbing/washing duties.
- Be able to push carts weighing up to 200 lbs.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Visual acuity sufficient to inspect cleanliness of rooms and surfaces.
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Regularly exposed to fumes and caustic or toxic chemicals.
- Occasionally works in outside weather conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Noise level may be moderate to loud.
- Work environment is often high stress and mentally demanding.
