Assistant Controller
Job Description
Join Hotel Drover on site in Fort Worth, TX as an on-site Assistant Controller. This role leads finance operations and a broad accounting function, including month‑end close, system improvements, and precise financial reporting. You will supervise a team handling A/P, A/R, Income Audit, Daily Cash, and General Accounting, ensuring smooth daily operations and strong controls. The position emphasizes policy development, procedural documentation, and opportunities to automate processes to reduce cycle time and manual work, supporting profitability and asset protection across the property.
Responsibilities
- Supervise team members responsible for A/P, A/R, Income Audit, Daily Cash, and General Accounting to ensure smooth daily operations
- Establish, implement, and document policies and procedures that promote a robust control environment to safeguard assets and manage business risks
- Maintain and troubleshoot operational and accounting systems to ensure reporting accuracy
- Manage, review, and ensure accuracy of the general ledger, account reconciliations, and financial statements from transaction origination
- Prepare, review, and approve complex journal entries and reconciliations with full source documentation
- Lead complex accounting projects, pursue continuous improvements and automation, and reduce cycle time
- Provide tools and metrics for the accounting team to analyze efficiency and effectiveness
- Assist with monthly flux analyses
- Review leases, contracts, agreements, subcontracts, and licenses from an accounting perspective
- Ensure accuracy of all accounting data used in filings for licenses, taxes, and contracts
- Review and advise on daily, weekly, and monthly operating reports to the property
- Ensure the accuracy of financial reporting to Ownership, Management Company, internal departments, and internal/external auditors
- Provide operational, regulatory, and ad hoc reports as required
- Build a proactive and responsive department: schedule, evaluate, train, develop, and monitor team members
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience; accounting or hospitality background preferred
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Minimum 3+ years of accounting/finance supervisory experience with a proven ability to mentor and develop staff
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including US GAAP and USALI
- On‑property, multi‑property, or shared service hotel experience is a plus
- Analytical approach with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Highly proficient with spreadsheet and word processing software; experienced with XLOOKUP and Pivot Tables
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with financial and hotel software applications such as M3, ProfitSword, and Inventory Systems

Environment and physical requirements
- Primarily office-based with extended periods of sitting and computer use
- Ability to review detailed financial data and reports with strong visual focus

- Ability to lift up to 15–25 lbs occasionally
Preferred qualifications
- Hands-on understanding of all accounting areas including AP, AR, Income Audit, Cash, General Ledger, Credit/Collections, COS/Inventory Control, Payroll, and P&L analysis
- Experience working closely with Front Office, Reservations, Food & Beverage, and Sales to support operations
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvements and automation in business processes
