Chef Assistant - Relief Chef

Support great service behind the scenes with food provided and an opportunity to step in when the chef is off. This onsite relief position supports Fireworx Bar at the Boardwalk Hotel / Fireworx Bar and Boardwalk Coffee & General Store in Saint Ignace, MI.

What you’ll do

As a Chef Assistant / Relief Cook, you’ll help keep the kitchen running smoothly by supporting daily prep and service. On the chef’s days off, the role can operate independently and lead kitchen execution to maintain consistent quality and pace during service.

• Assist with daily food preparation and service
• Prepare and cook menu items consistently and to established standards
• Handle kitchen tasks and execute service independently on the chef’s days off
• Maintain proper food storage, labeling, rotation, and sanitation
• Help with receiving and organizing food deliveries
• Keep prep areas, equipment, and the kitchen clean, organized, and ready for service
• Work efficiently during busy service periods
• Communicate well with bartenders, servers, and other team members

What you bring

• Previous restaurant or commercial kitchen experience preferred
• Basic line-cooking and food-preparation skills
• Ability to follow recipes and maintain consistent quality
• Dependable, organized, and comfortable working independently
• Positive attitude and willingness to pitch in wherever needed
• Knowledge of basic food-safety and sanitation practices
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays

Pay and schedule

$17–$19 per hour, depending on experience and ability. Pay range listed as $17.00 - $19.00 per hour. This is an in-person role.
