Night Auditor - PT
Job Description
The Night Auditor is a part time position at Houston Hotel Vesper in Houston, TX. This role balances revenue across room, restaurant, and bar operations, posts and reconciles charges and settlements, maintains essential files, and resets systems for the next business day. The incumbent may also serve as a front desk agent during the shift.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the daily Restaurant Revenue Report by auditing Micros tapes and journals to detail revenue, covers, server tips paid, and settlements by type and cashier.
- Run audit reports and journals to verify financial activity.
- Make corrections and adjustments and address computer issues that arise during the shift.
- Enter revenue, expenses, and allowances into the computer to generate daily reports such as the Guest Ledger Summary and the Daily Restaurant Summary.
- Balance all revenue and settlement accounts nightly, maintain files, and reset systems for the next day’s operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller and Assistant Controller based on department needs.
- Ensure all reports and backup vouchers are complete and properly filed.
- Distribute copies of daily work documents and reports to the appropriate parties (A/R, A/P, Payroll).
- Review and correct discrepancies in the Front Desk System.
- Coordinate with front desk and restaurant/bar closing activities to ensure smooth file maintenance and system total resets for the next day.
- Greet guests promptly with a friendly welcome, use a clear speaking voice, listen to requests, respond with appropriate action, and provide accurate information such as outlet hours and local attractions.
- Complete the registration process by inputting and retrieving information, confirming guest details including number of guests and room rate, and selecting appropriate rooms; code electronic keys, certificates, and coupons as needed; requires continual standing and movement in front office areas.
- Verify and imprint credit cards for authorization using electronic methods; handle cash, make change, and balance the house bank; accept and record vouchers, travelers’ checks, and other payments; perform moderately complex arithmetic; post charges to guest rooms and house accounts.
- Answer telephone inquiries promptly with clear English communication, input messages, relay information to guests, and retrieve mail, packages, and faxes as requested.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Follow safety and security procedures and rules, including knowledge of department fire prevention and emergency procedures, and proper use of protective equipment.
- Report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, or losses to the supervisor/manager.
- Contribute to a safe work environment by adhering to safety and security procedures.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance in line with the team member handbook standards.
- Assist other Front Desk personnel as needed.
- Perform related duties as requested by supervision or management.
Requirements
- Knowledge of accounting operations, including accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Basic mathematical skills and the ability to operate a 10-key by touch.
- Ability to address guest and employee concerns in a friendly, positive manner, demonstrating empathy and providing proactive solutions.
- Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English to communicate with guests and staff; excellent telephone etiquette.
- Hearing and visual capabilities to observe and respond to emergency situations.
