Job Description

The Daxton Hotel in Birmingham, MI is seeking an Engineer (Property Maintenance) to oversee on-site upkeep of equipment, systems and building components.

Responsibilities

  • Foster teamwork and a positive atmosphere by collaborating with hotel associates.
  • Maintain all equipment, systems and building components, including mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, locks, furniture, paint, wall coverings, tile and other equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance, repairs and cleaning in guest rooms, public spaces, event areas, outlets, back-of-house spaces and grounds.
  • Remain familiar with the hotel safety systems and take corrective action on maintenance or operating problems that affect security or operations.
  • Participate in the room preventative maintenance program.
  • Use diagnostic skills to detect equipment malfunctions and discuss variations in machine operation with supervisors or other maintenance staff to diagnose and repair.
  • Repair and maintain the physical structure and furnishings as needed.
  • Maintain full knowledge of departmental policies, service procedures and standards; attend scheduled training classes and meetings.
  • Transport heavy boxes and packages within the hotel for maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist in the delivery and setup of new equipment such as televisions, mattresses, tables and chairs.
  • Communicate project status with the Chief Operating Engineer as assigned.
  • Respond to guest requests in a timely and personable manner.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience in building maintenance; hotel engineer experience preferred or comparable work at an apartment complex or office building.
  • Basic knowledge of refrigeration systems, electricity, HVAC and plumbing; certifications are a plus.
  • Strong English reading, writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods; bend, climb stairs and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently and stay self-directed.
  • Willingness to work varied shifts, including days, nights, weekends and holidays.
