Job Description

The Hotel Chief Engineer at The Elizabeth Hotel is responsible for leading on-site facilities maintenance and engineering operations. This position oversees mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems while supporting safe, comfortable conditions for both guests and team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise Engineering employees, including interviewing, scheduling, training, coaching, and counseling; maintain open communications and recommend performance review inputs.
  • Implement and schedule preventive maintenance for property and equipment in line with corporate or franchise standards and local, state, and national codes and regulations.
  • Prioritize and manage service requests by scheduling and monitoring service work to support customer satisfaction, safety, and convenience.
  • Test and examine life safety systems to ensure they remain operational at all times to protect the asset, guests, and employees.
  • Monitor utility consumption to evaluate the effectiveness of current systems.
  • Review purchase requests and monitor departmental expenses to help meet or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Support departmental administration by preparing and maintaining schedules, logs, records, and other documentation to support smooth operations and minimize liabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of the Building Management/Engineering profession, including experiential management knowledge for people and complex problems.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze current activities or information in a specialized field using readily available data to reach logical conclusions and recommendations.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Ability to provide information and associated services to hotel management and guests.
  • Comprehension and literacy needed for procedures, reports, instructions, and receipts.
  • Communication ability with management and staff.
  • Ability to visually check hotel premises.

Education and Experience

Education: One to two years of post high school education.

Experience: From two to three full years of full employment in a related position with this company or other organization(s). Management experience: 2 years (Required). Hotel experience: 1 year (Preferred).

Physical Demands

  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying weights up to 25 lbs. and greater for hotel equipment and machinery.
  • Frequent bending and/or kneeling throughout the day for repairs and maintenance.
  • Mobility throughout the hotel across all floors, varying heights and distances; ladders and lifts required at times.
  • Continuous standing required in varying degrees throughout the day.
  • Climbing approximately 210 steps (about 10% of each day).
  • Climbing ladders approximately 20 feet (about 5% of each day).
  • Limited driving on an occasional basis for supplies and equipment, generally within 20 miles.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed inside 95% of the week and outside 5% of the week.
  • Exposure to abnormal temperatures, including walk-in freezers below 32 degrees for about 1% of the time.
  • Equipment operation involving power hand tools such as a circular saw and drill.

Compensation and Location

  • Location: Fort Collins, CO (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 75,000 - 85,000 per year
