Bar back / food runner

As a Bar Back / Food Runner at The Avalon Hotel in Miami Beach, you will support bartenders and the bar team by delivering food and beverages, keeping service areas clean and organized, and assisting with food-related tasks while following all food safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

• Deliver food from the kitchen to guests’ tables; must be able to hold a tray weighing more than 50 lbs.
• Deliver beverages from the bar to guests promptly, ensuring proper presentation and adherence to safety standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar area, including wiping down surfaces, washing glassware, and disposing of waste responsibly.
• Support food handling and preparation tasks as needed, including assisting with snack or appetizer setups for guests.
• Monitor inventory levels of bar supplies and communicate shortages or replenishment needs to management promptly.
• Bus tables and clear empty glasses or dishes from guest areas efficiently to uphold a tidy environment.
• Follow all food safety protocols and sanitation standards to help ensure a safe experience for guests and staff.

Requirements

• Ability to deliver food from the kitchen to guests’ tables while carrying a tray of more than 50 lbs.
• Prior experience in food service or restaurant environments is highly preferred; familiarity with serving or bartending is a plus.
• Knowledge of POS systems such as Aloha POS or Micros POS enhances efficiency in order processing.
• Experience with banquet service or large event setups is advantageous.
• Kitchen or culinary experience can be beneficial for understanding food handling and preparation standards.
• Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and supporting excellent guest service.
• Previous hotel or hospitality experience helps support professional guest interactions.
• Demonstrated commitment to food safety practices and customer satisfaction is highly valued.
• Agreement to random drug testing.
• Agreement to a background check.
• Ability to provide prior or current work references.
• Ability to carry a 50 lb tray.
• Restaurant experience: 1 year (required).
• Language: English (preferred).
• Shift: Day Shift (required).
• Location requirement: Miami Beach, FL 33139 (required).
• Background check and authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. with E-Verify.
• Workplace standard: Drug Free and Alcohol free workplace.
