Job Description

The Housekeeping Supervisor at Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel at Keystone Crossing oversees cleaning operations within assigned sections and may assume Housekeeping Manager duties in their absence. This onsite role is based in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Summary

The Housekeeping Supervisor oversees housekeeping functions in assigned sections and may assume Housekeeping Manager duties in their absence.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with guests and colleagues in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain regular attendance in line with Avion Hospitality standards, with schedules varying to meet hotel needs.
  • Present a high standard of personal appearance and grooming, including the proper uniform and name tag during shifts.
  • Comply at all times with Avion Hospitality standards and regulations to support safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Review staff performance daily within the assigned section to ensure standards and productivity are met.
  • In the absence of the Housekeeping Manager or Assistant Housekeeping Manager, inspect VIP rooms and report availability to the Front Office.
  • Oversee the orderly closing of floors at the end of the day, ensuring Room Attendants’ carts are clean and restocked with linen only.
  • Ensure daily assignment records are completed, signed off, and submitted to the Housekeeping Office on time.
  • Maintain the key control system.
  • Supervise all Laundry and Housekeeping staff, holding them accountable for performance.
  • Submit documentation regarding poor work performance, misconduct, excessive absenteeism, lateness, and improper attire.
  • Handle Lost and Found items in accordance with established standards.
  • Be familiar with Avion Hospitality policies and House Rules.
  • Ensure employees are consistently attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to guests, managers, and colleagues.
  • Maintain the overall appearance, cleanliness, and orderliness of the staff.
  • Carry an active pager or radio to maintain contact with the Front Office and/or Engineering during the shift.
  • Oversee daily duty assignments, ensuring each Room Attendant and House Attendant has a work assignment.
  • Monitor the cleanliness and orderliness of Room Attendants’ carts, linen closets, control closets, stairways, and landings.
  • Report progress of any out-of-order rooms under the Housekeeping Department to the Guest Services Manager daily.
  • Initiate and follow through on work orders for repairs and maintenance of doors, plumbing, HVAC, electrical systems, furniture, carpets, and window treatments.
  • Oversee proper and constructive training of Room Attendants.
  • Motivate, coach, and counsel staff as needed.
  • Collect keys and assignment sheets daily at the end of each shift.
  • Attend management-required meetings.
  • Ensure completion of routine maintenance and cleaning projects on a biannual basis.
  • Monitor VIP guests and special requests to ensure satisfaction.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • 2 to 3 years of progressive experience in a hotel or related field.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • College coursework in a related field is helpful.
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Long hours may be required.
  • Medium physical work, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently or constantly.
  • Ability to stand for the duration of the shift.
  • Clear and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to evaluate options quickly and make sound decisions.
  • Resilience in stressful, high-pressure situations.
  • Initiative and proactive performance, including anticipating needs before they arise.
  • Maintains composure and objectivity under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and resolving issues.
  • Capacity to assimilate complex information from diverse sources and adapt as needed.
  • Active listening skills to understand concerns from co-workers and guests.
  • Ability to work with financial information and perform basic arithmetic.
