Assistant Director of Finance
Job Description
Located in Denver, CO and worked onsite at The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa, this Assistant Director of Finance role supports the hotel’s Accounting Operations by helping ensure reporting is accurate, timely, and consistent. The position oversees key daily finance functions and internal controls, coordinating teams and processes in line with established policies, procedures, GAAP, and applicable laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Cashiering, and Night Audit employees, including interviewing, hiring recommendations, training, development, coaching, scheduling, performance and salary review recommendations, and appropriate escalation of discipline or termination.
- Oversee daily accounting operations to ensure compliance with SOPs and LSOPs, GAAP, and all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements to keep financial information accurate and available.
- Prepare financial statements and management reports to support accurate, timely decision-making.
- Assist with the compilation and preparation of the annual budget, forecasts, taxes, and other financial reports for management and owners.
- Train, monitor, and coordinate the implementation and maintenance of financial and cash controls and information flow across other departments to support accurate records and minimize liabilities, losses, and expenses.
- Resolve operational problems and support maintenance of accounting systems and equipment to maintain smooth operations.
- Analyze and remain familiar with tenants, leases, and rent reports, helping ensure compliance with hotel leases and management contracts.
- Assume the responsibilities of the Controller in his/her absence.
Required Qualifications
- 2 to 4 years of hotel accounting experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Knowledge of the functions performed by subordinate teams reporting directly or indirectly to the Hotel Controller.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting, finance, and hospitality practices, including experience managing people and complex problems.
- Ability to analyze activities or information using some original data manipulation or interpretation to reach logical conclusions.
- Ability to make decisions aligned with established policies and procedures.
- Communication skills that support the delivery of information and services, along with supervisory capability.
