Housekeeping Room Attendant
Job Description
The Housekeeping Room Attendant is responsible for cleaning assigned guest rooms to established hotel cleanliness standards. In addition to routine room service tasks, this role supports guest satisfaction through timely response to requests and accurate reporting of issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean guest rooms as assigned, meeting the hotel’s established cleanliness standards.
- Maintain daily room quality standards at a superior level.
- Use correct cleaning chemicals on designated surfaces in accordance with OSHA regulations and hotel requirements.
- Clean assigned rooms by category priority and service rooms as assigned.
- Transport the cleaning cart with supplies, amenities, and linens to each assigned room, and position it securely.
- Empty trash containers and ashtrays.
- Remove soiled terry items and replace with clean par items in the designated layout.
- Clean bathroom mirrors and surfaces by removing soil, dirt, soap buildup, and hair from items including vanity, sink, toilet, shower walls, bathtub, shower curtain, and floor.
- Replace facial and toilet tissue and bathroom amenities in the correct amount and location.
- Inspect bathrobes and replace any soiled or damaged pieces.
- Remove dirty bed linens, make the bed with clean linen, and replace laundry bags and slips.
- For check-out rooms, clean closets and door tracks, remove dust and debris, and ensure the correct amount and placement of hangers, extra blanket or pillow, and the luggage rack.
- Dust and polish furniture and realign furniture according to the floor plan.
- In check-out rooms, open drawers and doors and remove items left by guests.
- Check under beds, chairs, and sofa for debris and remove it if present.
- Inspect furniture condition for tears, rips, or stains and report any damage to the supervisor.
- Remove dust, debris, and foreign particles from upholstered furniture, including crevices and under cushions.
- Dust pictures, frames, and mirrors.
- Clean televisions and related items (VCR, clock radio, remote control, and cable box), including dust and debris removal.
- Set the correct time on the clock, set the correct TV channel, and place the correct movie rental insert.
- Clean lamps and light switches and verify proper working order.
- Remove dust, spots, and smears from windows, ledges, and frames.
- Remove dust, grease, and smudges from telephones and reposition them properly.
- Empty liquid from the ice bucket and wipe surfaces dry.
- Clean mini bar areas (including doors and shelves), remove dust and smudges, ensure it is plugged in, and confirm it is securely locked.
- Remove dust from drapes weekly and realign drapes to the correct position daily.
- Inspect desk amenities, drawers, and guest service directory; replace designated amounts in proper room locations.
- Remove trash, debris, and cobwebs from balconies or patios; inspect planters and plants and remove debris.
- Remove dust, dirt, marks, and fingerprints from entrance doors.
- Ensure fire safety items, rate cards, and DND signs are present; inspect condition and replace as needed.
- Remove dust, dirt, and smudges from A/C units, vents, grids, and thermostat; set the thermostat according to seasonal instructions.
- Remove dust, stains, and marks from baseboards, ledges, and corners; vacuum carpet in the guest room.
- Spray the room with deodorizer.
- Update room-cleaned status on the assignment sheet and return or restock the cart at the end of shift.
- Empty the vacuum bag and wipe the vacuum clean.
- Ensure security of any assigned guest room keys.
- Handle guest complaints using the six step procedures and support guest satisfaction.
- Report damages and maintenance problems to the supervisor and turn over lost and found items to the supervisor.
- Provide a friendly, helpful, and courteous approach to guests and fellow employees.
- Perform all other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma.
- Minimum one years’ experience cleaning hotel guest rooms.
- Ability to follow directions thoroughly and maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.
- Knowledge of proper chemical handling procedures and familiarity with cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Required to speak, read, and write English; fluency in other languages is preferred.
- Physical capability to transport up to 25 pounds and perform various movements throughout work areas, including reaching up and down and remaining stationary at times, while communicating effectively with guests and co-workers.
Compensation and Location
Location: Montecito, CA (onsite).
Pay: USD 23 - 25 per hourly.
