Job Description

At Scholar Highlander Hotel in Radford, VA, this onsite Public Spaces Attendant plays a key role in keeping shared areas clean, welcoming, and ready for every guest. The position supports consistent guest service by completing detailed cleaning tasks across lobbies, public restrooms, meeting and office spaces, and surrounding exterior areas.

Working with housekeeping management and hotel standards, you will focus on cleanliness, timely service, and dependable support for day-to-day operations. The role also includes responding promptly to guest needs and handling assigned duties as directed.

What you will do

  • Maintain guest service as the driving philosophy of the operation by responding promptly to guest needs
  • Demonstrate commitment to guest satisfaction and meet or exceed guest satisfaction measures
  • Ensure hotel standards and services support consistent guest service delivery
  • Implement and practice guest service initiatives and perform according to Hotel Standards
  • Greet all guests (internal and external)
  • Clean exterior grounds and the parking lot
  • Transport clean and soiled linens to and from the laundry area to room attendants
  • Remove trash from guest hallways and the lobby area when needed
  • Vacuum carpeting and shampoo carpeting
  • Mop floors
  • Clean furniture, and move furniture as required
  • Deliver items to guest rooms per request
  • Lift, twist, bend, and stretch while performing job duties
  • Maintain cleanliness of the lobby area, including front and rear entrances, lobby seating, lower lobby seating, lobby elevator landing, parking lot, business center, fitness room, pool area and restrooms, guest laundry area, and walkways
  • Maintain cleanliness of the meeting and conference center area, including the foyer, walkways, hallways, and restrooms
  • Maintain cleanliness of office space, restrooms, walkways, and hallways
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas in the entire lobby, meeting/conference center foyer, and office areas
  • Clean and wipe glass doors, tables, displays, windows, and fixtures in the lobby, meeting/conference center foyer, and office areas
  • Clean and wipe tables and counters in the lobby, meeting/conference center foyer, and office areas
  • Clean and stock restrooms in the pool area, meeting/conference center, and office areas
  • Maintain cleanliness and order of lobby furniture (spot clean and rotate cushions)
  • Empty and clean trash cans in the entire lobby, meeting/conference center foyer, and office areas
  • Clean, sweep, and mop marble or tiled floors in the lobby and restrooms, keeping floors dry and polished
  • Clean and sweep the front entrance vestibule and outside doors, and empty and clean trash cans in the front and rear entrance to the lobby
  • Report damages to the department supervisor, manager, and other appropriate personnel
  • Complete other duties as required, including additional tasks assigned by the Director of Housekeeping, Assistant Housekeeping Manager, or Housekeeping Supervisor

Education

  • High School degree preferred

Requirements

  • Ability to read and speak English and comprehend simple instructions
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees, guests, and supervisors for optimum operation of the property
  • Demonstrate the ability to anticipate and solve practical problems or resolve issues
  • Previous housekeeping experience is helpful
  • May need to sit or stand as needed for an extended period of time
  • Ability to reach above shoulder heights, below the waist, or lift as required to file documents or store materials
  • Proper lifting techniques required
  • Physical ability to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects
  • Ability to use various EQP vacuum cleaners and buffers
