Responsibilities

Clean and prepare guest rooms and public areas by following established standards of cleanliness and propriety. Key duties include:

  • Retrieve items from shelves and storerooms, set up a cleaning cart with supplies, and keep carts and storerooms clean and organized to support efficient room cleaning.
  • Clean and wipe windows, doors, walls, closets, and fixtures in rooms, public areas, and hallways, using ladders or stools when needed for hard-to-reach areas.
  • Wash shower walls and tubs, clean toilet(s) and stall walls if applicable, wipe exposed pipes, and clean mirrors, sink(s), and walls for clean and sanitary restrooms.
  • Replace towels, soaps, and room amenities, and restock literature and stationery removed or soiled/torn by previous guests.
  • Wash hard floor areas (linoleum, tile, etc.) by hand to remove dirt and soiled areas.
  • Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and wall hangings, including reaching vents and ceiling corners to remove dust and cobwebs.
  • Strip and remake beds with fresh linen, checking bedspread, blankets, and bed pads for cleanliness and replacing if soiled; lift mattresses to check for soil or objects between mattresses and under the bed.
  • Check closets for cleanliness, wiping closet door, handle, and overhead shelves, and restocking supplies such as hangers, extra blankets, and pillows.
  • Vacuum rooms, public areas, and hallways using vacuums weighing up to 25 lbs, lifting or moving furniture to vacuum fully, including underneath and hard-to-reach carpet areas.
  • Inspect door and window locks to ensure proper working order, and alert management immediately to any unsecured or unsafe situation for guest and associate safety.
  • Inspect room equipment (TV, lights/lamps, faucets, radios, phones) and report room status and maintenance deficiencies in writing to the Executive Housekeeper for prompt repair/resolution.
  • Secure and maintain custody of equipment, keys, and supplies at all times to protect hotel property.
  • Report missing articles, items requiring repair, damage, mechanical problems, or safety hazards to the Supervisor.
  • Maintain a friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor at all times; perform other duties as assigned, requested, or deemed necessary by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience
  • No formal experience required
  • Ability to constantly push a loaded supply cart from room to room, carry a tote tray with replacement amenities to the assigned floor, arrange drapery and replacement linen, carry dirty linen to the laundry chute, and operate a vacuum
  • Communicate information about hotel services to guests, vendors, staff members, and management
