Senior Accountant
Job Description
Support the financial operations of Wings Event Center and the Kalamazoo Wings while leading month-end and year-end close for Stadium Management Corporation (SMC).
Responsibilities
- Own key portions of the month-end and year-end close
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, deferrals, and other accounting adjustments
- Review general ledger activity for accuracy, correct classification, and proper period recognition
- Produce monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
- Perform financial statement and variance analysis; communicate material findings to management
- Complete and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigate reconciling items, and resolve discrepancies
- Conduct monthly bank reconciliations; manage and oversee electronic payments, deposits, and other banking activity
- Monitor and reconcile company credit card activity and ensure compliance with company policies
- Support accounting and reconciliation for venue and team revenue streams, including ticketing, concessions, sponsorship, merchandise, special events, and other related areas
- Support event settlements and ensure event-related revenues and expenses are recorded accurately
- Review accounts receivable and accounts payable activity; assist with aging or unusual balance resolution
- Prepare applicable sales and use tax filings and year-end information reporting
- Lead or significantly contribute to annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and departmental KPI reporting
- Partner with department leaders to research variances, improve financial processes, and support operational decisions
- Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls and improve accuracy and efficiency of accounting processes
- Support fixed asset and capital spending accounting and documentation
- Assist with internal and external audits; maintain appropriate supporting documentation
- Maintain applicable licenses, renewals, and other financial compliance requirements
- Participate in Greenleaf Hospitality Group Finance initiatives and other projects as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles
- Demonstrated experience with month-end and year-end close processes
- Advanced understanding of general ledger accounting, A/P, A/R, accrual accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and internal controls
- Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google suite
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with Finance, operational departments, and leadership
- High level of discretion and confidentiality
