Complex Accounting Manager
Job Description
Support accurate reporting, strong controls, and owner/investor asset safeguarding as part of the Complex Accounting team at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver in Denver, CO (onsite). In this role, you partner with the Director of Finance and Assistant Director of Finance to keep financial information timely, compliant, and audit-ready, with a focus on Payroll, Income Audit, and Accounts Receivable.
What you’ll do
- Monitor, prepare, and communicate financial reports according to Highgate Hotels required due dates.
- Complete Income Audit by entering required information into the BiPortal on a daily basis.
- Manage time and attendance workflows used for daily, weekly, and bi-weekly payroll, including verifying payroll information and recording earnings and deductions.
- Prepare and input required payroll journal entries.
- Own the daily Accounts Receivable process, including credit/billing/collections.
- Monitor group and function payment requirements and process deposits as needed.
- Approve or decline credit requests and conduct collection calls for outstanding accounts, maintaining organized collection files.
- Review and approve City Ledger transfers daily and escalate any deviations from established Accounting policies and procedures to a supervisor.
- Handle customer inquiries promptly and provide accurate invoices, statements, and schedules.
- Process returned checks and credit card chargebacks.
- Run monthly credit meetings and maintain required minutes, including returned check and chargeback logs, credit trace reports, and bad debt allowances/write-offs.
- Coordinate with Sales and Events to establish customer credit, including application processing, reference checks, credit limitation, direct billing lists, and deposit requirements.
- Maintain an efficient collections system with filing and tracing, letters, monitoring returned items, collection calls, and documentation for bad debt write-offs.
- Update daily revenue reports for both internal and corporate distribution.
- Monitor guest ledger, advance deposit ledger, and other related ledgers to support internal controls.
- Keep management informed of unusual operations or financial occurrences, including significant deviations.
- Reconcile invoices against ledgers or schedules to ensure accurate invoicing.
- Support monthly close by posting journal entries related to daily and monthly responsibilities.
- Contribute to guest satisfaction by listening attentively, resolving issues promptly, or escalating to the Director of Finance or General Manager as needed.
- Cross-train within Accounting, including accounts payable.
- Identify root causes affecting staff or guests and propose actionable, measurable solutions to improve efficiency, the work environment, and/or guest experience.
What you bring
- College courses in an associated or related field and/or related experience in a Hotel or Hospitality environment.
- Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office (Intermediate Excel and Basic Word).
- Accounts Receivable and Payroll experience is preferred.
- Hotel PMS Opera is preferred.
- Ability to work flexible and long hours, especially during the last and first few days of the month.
- Sedentary work requirements, including exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and negligible force frequently or constantly to move objects.
- Warm, friendly demeanor; professional, attentive, courteous, service-oriented communication with employees and guests.
- Strong listening, understanding, and clarification skills for employee and guest concerns.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings; maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotels scheduling needs.
- Maintain personal appearance and grooming standards; comply with Highgate Hotels Standards and regulations.
- Ability to identify problem areas, handle issues proactively, and implement solutions.
- Ability to understand complex information from various sources and maintain confidentiality.
- Initiative to anticipate guests or operational needs.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
