Job Description

On the Gulf Shores campus of The Lodge at Gulf State Park, a Hilton Hotel, the Learning Campus Houseman is the hands-on host who keeps lobby and public spaces pristine while supporting event setup and operations. This role helps with catering support, bunkhouse turnovers, and ensures facilities remain safe, clean, and guest-ready throughout the day, aligning with the hotel’s standards for thoughtful hospitality.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain lobby and public spaces in a clean, orderly condition according to standard procedures and in a safe, accident-free manner.
  • Set up and break down meeting rooms, classrooms, and event spaces per diagrams and daily schedules.
  • Arrange tables, chairs, podiums, audiovisual gear, and other meeting materials to established standards.
  • Reset meeting spaces promptly between events and ensure rooms are ready for presentations before guests arrive.
  • Assist with room flips and make last-minute setup changes as requested.
  • Keep all Learning Campus meeting rooms, classrooms, hallways, storage areas, and common spaces clean and organized.
  • Clean and sanitize tables, chairs, counters, and meeting equipment after use.
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles as needed.
  • Report maintenance concerns or safety hazards promptly.
  • Maintain neat, stocked, and welcoming public areas throughout the day.
  • Set up and replenish coffee breaks, beverage stations, water stations, and snack areas.
  • Assist with continental breakfasts, boxed lunches, buffets, and other catered functions.
  • Monitor food and beverage stations to ensure cleanliness and adequate product levels.
  • Break down catering stations after events and transport food, beverages, equipment, and supplies as needed.
  • Help the bunkhouse turnover process between group arrivals and departures by assisting housekeeping as required.
  • Prepare bunkhouses by moving furniture, making beds, stocking supplies, and ensuring cleanliness standards.
  • Support housekeeping operations during peak occupancy periods.
  • Report maintenance or cleanliness issues found during room inspections.
  • Keep meeting room furniture and equipment in good working condition and transport items safely around campus.
  • Organize storage rooms and maintain proper inventory of meeting supplies; notify management when replenishment is needed.
  • Follow safety standards from the hotel, Learning Campus, Hilton, Valor Hospitality, and the State Park; maintain safe lifting and material handling practices.
  • Adhere to proper sanitation and food safety procedures during catering events and maintain a clean, organized work environment at all times.
  • Immediately report accidents, unsafe conditions, or damaged equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous hospitality, banquet, housekeeping, conference center, facilities, or event setup experience preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer service mindset.
  • Flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Constant physical activity with the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Push and pull carts, tables, chairs, and banquet equipment.
