Job Description

The Public Area Attendant at Loews Vanderbilt Hotel in Nashville, TN is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and assisting with upkeep across hotel public spaces and related back-of-house areas. This role follows Housekeeping policies and safety procedures, supports guest satisfaction through attentive service, and performs required tasks during special events and emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow OSHA regulations and all Housekeeping department policies and procedures.
  • Provide guest-focused service using strong guest relations skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude to support an excellent guest experience.
  • Treat guests and fellow employees with courtesy and respect, and support a positive environment among employees.
  • Anticipate guest needs with sensitivity and responsiveness to support complete guest satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Maintain knowledge of the hotel and be able to explain locations and operating hours of hotel facilities.
  • Complete assigned duties in a timely and professional manner, applying teamwork at all times.
  • Recognize repeat guests when applicable.
  • Encourage and apply teamwork skills, and promptly notify the appropriate individual about problems or unusual matters of significance.

Public Area Cleaning and Support Duties

  • Clean and sweep the front area of the hotel, including floors and sidewalks; clean doors, frames, signs, and windows.
  • Clean and dust lobby areas.
  • Clean and restock assigned restrooms.
  • Remove trash from assigned areas and take trash to the compactor at the end of the day.
  • Use proper cleaning chemicals as described by department procedures.
  • Polish all metal around lobby areas.
  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain assigned public and back-of-house areas to required standards.
  • Turn lost and found items into Security according to hotel standards.
  • Comply with all specific HOSTAR policies and procedures.
  • Remove Room Service trays from hallways and place them in the appropriate location in the service corridor.

Equipment Use and Quality Standards

  • Operate and maintain, once trained, equipment including vacuums, extractors, burnishing or buffing machines, brooms, wet-vacuums, and upholstery cleaners.
  • Maintain high cleanliness standards, once trained, for carpets, tile, cement, marble, glass, and other surfaces.
  • Properly use and maintain equipment and supplies and keep equipment and the work area in excellent condition.
  • Checks all vacuums used by Room Attendants and maintains them.

Additional Cleaning and Operational Tasks

  • Assist with general cleaning of guestrooms, including spot cleaning on walls and carpets.
  • Assist Room Attendants by emptying trash and soiled linen from Housekeeping carts; take dirty linen to laundry pick up areas.
  • Transfer and stock supplies from Receiving as directed.
  • Ensure the Housekeeping storeroom is neat, organized, and secure.
  • Turn mattresses.
  • Clean chandeliers.
  • Maintain excellent condition of grounds, floors, and carpets.
  • Clean ashtrays and ash urns, clean ice machine areas, and clean elevator foyers, doors, and tracks.
  • Wash doors; vacuum guest hallways; clean windows, door jams, and fire boxes.
  • Clean and mop stairwells; clean handrails; sweep and mop hallways.
  • Replace burned out light bulbs according to established procedures.
  • Assist in preparation and deep cleaning of VIP rooms, including moving furniture as required.
  • Clean offices as scheduled, including Front Desk and back office areas, and clean back-of-house windows as needed.
  • Attend department meetings as scheduled.
  • Assist in restocking Room Attendant caddies, fill Room Attendant bottles with chemicals per department guidelines, and bring dirty glasses down to Housekeeping at the end of shift.
  • Wash guestroom glassware in the dishwasher and deliver clean glassware to linen closets.
  • Clean service landings and clean and organize linen closets, ensuring they are always locked.
  • Complete daily cleaning items for the specific public area assigned in a timely manner.
  • Perform as Restroom Attendant for special events when required, and perform as Room Attendant if required on an emergency basis.
  • Recycle whenever possible and remain current with hotel information and changes.

Training and Coverage

  • Graduate Houseperson: train Housekeeping employees regarding professional knowledge and skills according to the Executive Housekeeper's Course Outline, Standards, and Procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to provide coverage in related departments as directed.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Basic English language skills.
  • Ability to push, stand, stoop, bend, and lift items weighing up to 25 pounds repetitively during the entire shift.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
