Restaurant Server
Job Description
The Restaurant Server at Hotel Zena provides attentive, courteous, and efficient service to guests in Washington, DC. The position includes taking and delivering orders, supporting restaurant operations, and completing opening and closing and side-work tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous service to guests, managers, and fellow employees at all times.
- Understand the organization of the Restaurant(s), lounges, and Room Service, including the function of each role.
- Demonstrate knowledge of menus and current specials in applicable outlets.
- Serve guests with all food and beverage requirements in an attentive, courteous, and efficient manner.
- Pre-bus tables by removing soiled dishes after each course.
- Use and follow procedures related to the P.O.S system.
- Complete cashiering functions, including closing checks and preparing end-of-shift paperwork.
- Perform opening and closing procedures and side-work duties based on station rotation assignments and established checklists.
- Keep tables and side stands stocked, tidy, and clean.
- Ensure beverages remain at least ¾ full (coffee, tea, soda, water, and lemonade).
- Break down trays of soiled dishes and linen in the dishroom according to established standards.
- Answer the telephone in accordance with hotel standards.
- Consistently upsell food, beverage, and promotional items to guests.
- Know the locations of fire extinguishers and understand how to use them.
- Receive and deliver food and beverage orders and collect payment.
- Support overall guest satisfaction through consistent service.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent, and/or experience in a hotel or related field (preferred).
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including long hours when required.
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to stand for the entire shift.
- Ability to maneuver throughout the dining area while carrying full trays of food and beverages.
- Effective verbal and written communication with employees and guests in a courteous, service-oriented manner.
- Ability to listen to, understand, and clarify concerns raised by employees and guests.
- Strong ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
- Ability to attend all hotel-required meetings and trainings.
- Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards as required by scheduling.
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing the proper uniform and nametag.
- Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to support safe and efficient hotel operations.
- Ability to maximize efforts toward productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
- Capability to handle problems by anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving as necessary.
- Ability to understand and apply complex information and data from various sources to meet objectives.
- Ability to cross-train in other hotel-related areas.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Show initiative by anticipating guest or operational needs.
- Ability to perform other duties as requested by management.
- Maintain a friendly and warm demeanor at all times.
Location and Compensation
- Location: Washington, DC (onsite)
- Pay: USD 10 - 13 per hour
