Job Description

The Senior Accounting Manager leads the hotel’s accounting function onsite in San Francisco, CA, for Hotel Caza San Francisco. The role emphasizes timely financial reporting, robust internal controls, regulatory compliance, asset safeguarding, and supporting overall profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Finance in the prompt preparation of the property's monthly financial statements.
  • Ensure daily recording of hotel revenues via the income journal, monitor variances against budget and prior year.
  • Maintain proactive communication with department heads under the guidance of the Director of Finance to keep operations under control.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile general ledger accounts for the property.
  • Supervise accounting department staff.
  • Adhere to the hotel's accounting policies and internal controls for finance and accounting operations.
  • Oversee receivables and payables, monitor daily cash balances, and ensure timely deposits of all funds while communicating related issues effectively.
  • Monitor hotel revenues and expenses and ensure accurate recording per established guidelines; investigate variances and propose practical improvements to management.
  • Analyze financial data and operations to assist the Director of Finance and advise department heads in achieving the hotel's financial objectives.
  • Manage cash flow related issues, including the timely preparation of cash flow statements, receivables, payables, cash balances, control mechanisms and deposits.
  • Support capital planning by evaluating return on improvements, gathering supporting documentation, monitoring bid processes, and assessing scope of work and specifications for proper upkeep of the property.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory licenses and permits, leases, contracts, and operational taxes, and assist management in enforcing these requirements.
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations, on a timely basis.
  • Establish and continually audit internal financial controls covering purchasing, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, hotel assets, master keys, payroll and employee records.
  • Support ongoing growth by assisting in recruiting and developing finance leadership roles and maintaining a pool of qualified candidates for key positions.
  • Prioritize training and development for accounting staff to cultivate top talent within the industry.
  • Ensure implementation and completion of accounting competencies for both management and hourly staff.
  • Hire, train, supervise and develop staff, including coaching, counseling and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with brand standards and regulations to ensure safe and efficient operation of the hotel.
  • Oversee the proper utilization, maintenance and periodic upgrades of equipment.
  • Prepare financial reports in line with brand requirements and meet various due dates and deadlines.
  • Participate in periodic meetings to sustain positive working relationships, morale, productivity and efficiency.
  • Monitor adherence to reporting deadlines and take action to ensure timely submissions.
  • Monitor the accurate production of the hotel daily operating report.
  • Perform other special projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • A four year college degree is required, preferably with an accounting or finance concentration.
  • Minimum of two years of related progressive experience, or a two year college degree with at least four years of related progressive experience.
  • Proficiency in Windows, company approved spreadsheets and word processing, and in the operation of all hotel specific systems.
  • Physical requirements: long hours may be required.
  • Physical requirements: sedentary work with the ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally or move light objects as needed.
