Job Description
The Bell Attendant at ACE HOTEL BROOKLYN LLC supports a smooth guest arrival experience by directing traffic at the property entrance and assisting guests throughout the hotel, with a focus on luggage handling, coordination, and a welcoming presence in the lobby areas.
Role Overview
The Bell Attendant directs traffic at the property entrance and assists guests throughout the hotel, including luggage handling, room escorting, orientations, luggage storage and retrieval, and delivering packages and items. The role works closely with the Front Desk team to help maintain efficient luggage operations and a clean, orderly entrance and lobby environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct traffic at the property entrance and ensure smooth traffic flow.
- Greet guests in public areas, answer questions, handle requests, and provide directions as needed.
- Assist guests with luggage, proactively offering support in any area of the property.
- Escort guests to rooms and provide property and room orientations.
- Store and retrieve luggage, including placing luggage according to guest preference and offering further assistance before departing.
- Deliver packages, mail, messages, newspapers, and other items to guest rooms, meeting rooms, and offices.
- Open vehicle doors and assist guests entering and exiting vehicles.
- Transfer luggage and other items to and from vehicles upon request or as needed.
- Utilize bell carts effectively and with caution, ensuring carts remain clean and in good condition.
- Request taxis and shuttles for guests, as needed.
- Assist individuals and groups with check-in, checkout, and room changes.
- Promote property outlets to guests and help guests locate areas within the property when escorting is possible or by providing clear directions.
- Resolve guest complaints using property procedures.
- Maintain an alert position at post at all times.
- Participate in daily pre-shift meetings and coordinate with supervisors and managers to ensure assigned duties are completed to standard.
- Coordinate operations with other departments as needed, follow up on outstanding operational and guest issues, and monitor guest feedback for adjustments.
- Present a professional image to employees, guests, clients, owners, and investors.
- Review and develop guest history records to enhance personalized service for repeat guests.
- Maintain confidentiality of guest, employee, and company information.
- Inspect lobby areas, hotel entrances, and the garage for cleanliness and maintenance, report deficiencies to appropriate departments, and help ensure timely completion.
- Perform additional duties as requested by department managers and supervisors.
- Upon departure, thank guests and invite them back to the hotel.
Work Schedule and Location
Onsite work in Brooklyn, NY. A flexible schedule is required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Compensation
USD 18 - 25 per hour.
Education and Experience
- High School Graduate and/or any combination of experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to fulfill the role.
- Previous hotel experience preferred.
Requirements
- Ability to satisfactorily communicate in verbal and written English with guests, management, and co-workers.
- Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments with timely follow-up and execution.
- Superb time management skills.
- Complete knowledge of hotel services/features and hours of operation.
- Knowledge and understanding of Atelier & Ace Culture & initiatives.
- Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.
- Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
- Valid driver’s license; manual transmission experience preferred.
- Ability to understand and politely acknowledge guests’ service needs and requests.
- Ability to apply logical thinking to carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to address and solve problems involving guest and operational issues.
- Ability to clearly communicate in verbal and written English; additional foreign languages are encouraged and preferred.
- Understanding of hotel products and guest services.
- Ability to comply with physical demands as outlined for the role.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Sit, walk, and stand continuously.
- Lift and carry 25 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally.
- Bend, squat, crawl, and reach above shoulder level.
- Use dominant hand coordination for simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation.
- May be exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, dampness, height, and moving machinery.
