Director of Housekeeping
Job Description
The role directs and oversees Housekeeping operations on site in Washington, DC, supervising Managers and team members to support profitability, guest satisfaction, and associate development.
Responsibilities
- Engage guests and associates with attentiveness, friendliness, courtesy, and a service oriented demeanor.
- Maintain consistent attendance in line with Rebel Hotel Company standards based on hotel needs.
- Uphold professional appearance and grooming standards, follow the dress code, and wear a nametag as required.
- Adhere to Rebel Hotel Company standards and regulations to promote safe and efficient hotel operations.
- Maintain applicable certifications for the role, including CPR and First Aid, as required.
- Oversee hotel operations in the General Manager's absence to maintain continuity.
- Apply Rebel and Brand training to support personal and professional development.
- Collaborate with Department Heads to understand each position and its impact on hotel operations.
- Foster an environment where Associates can make empowered decisions to enhance Guest Satisfaction; follow up on outcomes with the appropriate Department Head.
- Assist the Director of Rooms in creating financial reports as required by the Corporate Office.
- Maintain compliance with Union regulations and stay current on Union changes and agreements.
- Meet corporate deadlines and those set by the General Manager.
- Participate in required Manager on Duty coverage as scheduled.
- Oversee service standards training in Housekeeping using the steps to effective training.
- Promote a positive, team oriented environment focused on the guest through Associate development and motivation.
- Support the Director of Rooms in complying with Preventative Maintenance and Deep Cleaning Programs via daily or weekly room inspections with the Property Engineer.
- Ensure Associates consistently provide attentive, friendly, courteous, and efficient service in interactions with Guests, Management, and colleagues.
- Be familiar with Housekeeping SOPs and maintain professional relationships with Managers, Associates, and other departments.
- Ensure fair and equitable treatment of Associates in accordance with Rebel Hotel Company SOPs.
- Complete required corporate training modules and become certified to train others as needed.
- Be present in public areas during peak times to greet Guests and offer assistance as needed.
- Attend all scheduled on site meetings when scheduled.
Requirements
- Minimum five years of progressive managerial experience in the Rooms Department covering Housekeeping operations.
- At least two years of experience as an assistant department head in a unionized housekeeping department.
- Experience working with Hotel Unions.
- Proficiency with Windows Operating Systems and various property and operations management systems.
- Ability to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
- Proven ability to work well in stressful, high pressure situations and maintain composure under pressure.
- Strong problem solving skills including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and resolving workplace issues.
- Ability to assimilate complex information from multiple sources and adjust to meet constraints.
- Effective listening, comprehension, clarification, and resolution of concerns from coworkers and Guests.
- Ability to work with financial information and perform basic arithmetic functions.
- Clear and effective communication of information and ideas.
- Fire Safety Director Certification preferred.
- Union experience is required.
