Public Area Attendant
Job Description
At the Renaissance Saint Elm Dallas Downtown Hotel, this role keeps the guest experience polished by ensuring public spaces are consistently clean, maintained, and ready for everyday activity. The Public Area Attendant performs both routine and deep-cleaning tasks across shared and administrative areas, and supports the team with guest inquiries and requests as needed.
Role Overview
Position Purpose: Ensure all public areas are clean and maintained according to the standards of the hotel.
Responsibilities
- Perform general cleaning duties in public areas, storage areas, and administrative areas.
- Clean rooms, hallways, lobby, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, and the fitness center.
- Complete a variety of tasks including dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, shampooing carpets, washing windows, and emptying carts of soiled linens.
- Assist with floor care such as cleaning and waxing floors; remove and dispose of trash, insects, and debris; and empty ashtrays.
- Handle deep cleaning tasks and special projects such as power washing sidewalks, blowing leaves, picking up trash and debris around the property, and removing bubble gum from sidewalks.
- Clean public restrooms and ensure maintenance needs are addressed throughout the shift.
- Supply and use a cleaning cart stocked with appropriate supplies for the shift.
- Maintain cleanliness in staff break areas and administrative offices.
- Ensure work areas are clean when finished.
- Be knowledgeable about the hotel and respond to guest inquiries and requests.
- Assist with delivering guest requests and, as needed, support the cleaning of guest rooms.
- Follow all company policies and safety and security procedures.
- Report maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries.
- Complete other reasonable job duties as assigned by managers and supervisors, including assistance with guest inquiries.
Required Education
- High school or equivalent education required.
Physical Demands and Work Capability
- Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to four (4) hours in length.
- Must be able to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously.
- Must be able to work in limited space and reach other departments in a timely manner.
- Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs. as needed.
- Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs.
- Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability, along with visual acuity.
- Hearing, smelling, tasting, and visual ability are required to observe and distinguish product quality and detect signs of emergency situations.
- Talking and hearing occur continuously while communicating with staff, guests, and supervisors.
- Vision occurs continuously, including near and color vision and depth perception.
- Ability to work primarily with fingers for picking, pinching, typing, and substantial wrist and hand movements.
Skills, Attributes, and Communication
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language used in the workplace.
- Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must have excellent customer relations skills.
- Must be detail oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.
- Must possess basic computer skills and basic computational ability.
- Must be able to effectively deal with internal and external customers, including situations requiring patience, tact, diplomacy, and accurate information gathering to resolve conflicts.
- Must be self-driven and able to work independently.
- Exceptionally strong issue resolution and proven analytical skills with attention to detail.
Grooming, Attendance, and Compliance
- All staff members must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance per Azul Hospitality standards and follow property-specific grooming and uniform standards.
- Regular attendance in conformance with Azul Hospitality standards is essential for successful performance.
- Staff with irregular attendance or tardiness may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
- Upon employment, full compliance with Azul Hospitality rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of hotel facilities is required.
- Violations of hotel rules and regulations may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
- Schedules may vary based on business needs, and attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
