Steward AM

THE UMSTEAD HOTEL & SPA in Cary, NC is seeking a Steward/Dishwasher to support the day-to-day cleanliness of the kitchen and dish pit. This onsite role focuses on keeping dishware and food service areas safe, sanitary, and well organized while following established safety practices.

Role overview

As a Steward AM, you will handle daily dishwashing and sanitizing tasks for kitchen and service equipment, while helping maintain the overall upkeep of kitchen spaces, waste areas, and storage-related items. Your work is centered on creating a safe, clean, and organized environment for food service operations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily washing and sanitizing of china, glassware, silverware, pots, pans, and food service equipment.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, safe, and organized dish pit area and ensure service items and equipment are kept clean and in proper working condition.
• Complete daily floor care and support trash, cardboard, and grease removal.
• Support cleanliness across the kitchen area, dish pit, waste disposal areas, storerooms, and food service-related equipment through consistent daily work performance.
• If assigned as the last shift of the day, properly break down the dish pit area.
• Follow Umstead safety policies and procedures, including using personal protective equipment and immediately documenting and reporting injuries and/or incidents to management.
• Assist with other duties requested by the Sous Chefs and/or Executive Chef.
• Attend departmental staff meetings as scheduled.
• Maintain a professional, clean, and well-groomed appearance at all times.
• Work with a positive attitude and communicate clearly and professionally in line with the company’s Vision and Values.

Requirements

• Ability to lift 50 to 75 pounds.
• Adherence to Umstead safety policies and procedures, including use of personal protective equipment and immediate documentation and reporting of injuries and/or incidents to management.

Work setting: Fine dining restaurant
Schedule: 8 hour shift, holidays, night shift, weekend availability
Compensation: USD 17 - 50 per hourly
