Hotel General Manager
Job Description
Venerts Hotel Management, Inc is hiring a Hotel General Manager for a Quality Inn and Suites limited service hotel in Watertown, SD (onsite). This role is centered on maximizing long-range hotel profitability while delivering optimum guest services within budget limits. Responsibilities
- Lead the overall management of the hotel to support an efficient, profitable operation.
- Work with Venerts Hotel Management Inc. to establish and implement operation and capital budgets; forecast and compare actual results to budgeted projections; use adjustments to maintain and improve profitability.
- Assist with developing and implementing the annual marketing plan, including responsibility for direct sales efforts.
- Serve as a leader who promotes genuine care and concern for guests across all areas of the property; motivate employees to anticipate guest expectations and respond immediately to requests.
- Implement company standards of service and operation and maintain uniform operational excellence.
- Stay current on local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to employment, safety, and health.
- Attend annual conventions and seminars to stay updated on industry changes and improvements.
- Maintain the policy manual in an up-to-date fashion and implement new policies as needed.
- Support management in setting competitive rates to maximize guest room revenue, food and beverage revenue, and other service revenue.
- Enforce policies and procedures to minimize guest and employee accidents and liability, ensuring a safe environment.
- Complete consistent inspections to maintain cleanliness and security and meet high service standards.
- Investigate guest comments and resolve issues in both the short and long term; report complaints and feedback to Venerts Hotel Management Inc.
- Participate in civic affairs to build community familiarity and support sales.
- Monitor competition and new developments in the hotel industry to maximize profitability.
- Conduct meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among company employees and promote morale, productivity, and efficiency.
- Prepare reports as requested to support better management decision-making and work activity evaluation.
- Handle duties in a timely and efficient manner while following established policies and procedures; escalate significant issues to the Director of Hotel Operations for prompt corrective action.
- Perform necessary supervisory functions, including maintaining a qualified staff, setting accountability and performance standards, recommending personnel actions, ensuring training, and fostering a cooperative and harmonious working climate.
- Support employee growth by developing individuals for future advancement.
- Perform other duties as requested or required.
- Willing to work 45-50 hours per week when necessary.
Requirements
- Education: 2-4 year degree in Hotel Management or equivalent; or 1-2 years previous lodging experience with supervisor experience.
- Experience with cash handling, accounting procedures, and general administrative tasks.
- Friendly, cheerful demeanor with the ability to interact easily with strangers.
- Ability to remain calm and use good judgment in stressful, emergency, and difficult situations.
- Ability to delegate, provide direction, and set priorities.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to resolve conflict using tact and diplomacy.
- Grooming must meet property standards.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and perform bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs or more.
- Ability to complete and become certified in CPR and First Aid, Serve-Safe, and any other related certifications required.
