Job Description

At Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa, the Housekeeping Supervisor/Inspector plays a key role in keeping both guest accommodations and public spaces clean and well-maintained. This onsite position in Astoria, OR focuses on supervising room cleaning operations, inspecting assigned units, and supporting housekeeping and laundry processes to align with hotel standards.

You will manage day-to-day cleanliness checks, lead teams in completing work accurately, and help uphold service standards through visible quality, timely communication, and documented procedures.

What you’ll do

  • Manage room cleaning operations to ensure methods align with company and brand standards while keeping room cleaning deficiencies to a minimum.
  • Inspect assign units each day, confirm standards are met, and ensure corrective action is taken by attendants as required.
  • Inspect all VIP rooms daily.
  • Oversee operational effectiveness including linen & inventory control, mattress rotation, key control procedures, safety and security procedures, storeroom organization, cart stocking, and lost and found.
  • Personally inspect rooms and public areas.
  • Support a general cleaning program with documented records for each unit.
  • Complete daily housekeeping reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintain equipment readiness by communicating with the Executive Housekeeper and following up with the maintenance department as needed.
  • Monitor labor for the day to keep productivity standards on track.
  • Maintain linen and supply costs within the annual budget and conduct accurate linen and supply inventory.
  • Ensure key control procedures are followed.
  • Know and teach safety prevention rules and techniques, including fire safety, to minimize workers compensation claims and company liability.
  • Respond promptly and follow through on guest requests in an effective and friendly manner to exceed guest expectations for service.
  • Work with all departments regularly to address interdepartmental operational issues and promote excellent guest service.
  • Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance and participate in proactive team efforts to support hotel and company goals.
  • Provide leadership through example and by sharing knowledge and skills with others.
  • Directly oversee and supervise all positions in the department, including day-to-day supervision of housekeeping associates.
  • Assign work, monitor and review progress and accuracy, direct efforts, and provide technical guidance on complex issues.
  • Train and develop subordinate staff, estimate personnel needs, assign work, meet completion dates, interpret organizational policies, and ensure consistent application with limited or no guidance.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report any unsafe activities to your supervisor.

Required qualifications

  • Ability to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to safety or health of employee or others.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to read and interpret simple and complex documents, reports, manuals, and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively with clear speech to individuals and groups.
  • Math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, plus computing rate, ratio, and percent and drawing and interpreting bar graphs.
  • Advanced basic computer job skills including logging on to systems, communicating by email, composing documents, entering database information, creating presentations, downloading forms, and preserving or backing up important data.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Compensation and work environment

  • Pay: USD 21 - 21 per hour

Physical requirements

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; very rarely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Regularly stand, talk, hear, and walk; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally required to sit; occasionally required to taste or smell.
  • Ability to read, see (close, distance, and peripheral vision), adjust focus, and apply depth and perception vision.
  • Occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Rarely required to work in high, precarious places and in wet or humid conditions (non-weather).
