Job Description
Join Argosy Casino Hotel & Spa Riverside as Sous Chef in the Main Kitchen in Riverside, MO (onsite).
Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and daily supervision for kitchen team members in the department.
- Support and administer operational goals; monitor progress toward performance and profit objectives.
- Adhere to scheduling requirements and coordinate scheduling concerns with management, with focus on guest satisfaction.
- Produce menu items as listed for each restaurant.
- Follow prep lists and ensure kitchens are stocked and ready for service.
- Support compliance to departmental budgets.
- Promote and demonstrate superior customer service in line with department and company standards and programs.
- Ensure customer service standards are followed by all team members and address issues as they arise.
- Assist with cost control by monitoring consistent pars and inventory levels across restaurants.
- Assist Chef de Cuisine with administrative duties, including tracking and maintaining attendance records.
- Support established quality assurance procedures to help maintain acceptable health department and customer service standards.
- Ensure regulatory compliance within assigned area and report potential issues to management.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in departmental and company matters.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Associates Degree (A.A.) in culinary or related field, plus minimum 2 years culinary experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Minimum 1 year previous supervisory experience required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook.
- Flexible to work all shifts including holidays, nights, weekends, and overtime based on business needs.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Math ability including add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to interact with guests, staff, and colleagues; resolve problems and conflicts diplomatically and tactfully.
- Ability to read and interpret documents in English (safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals).
- Ability to read and communicate verbally in English; written communication skills in English may be required.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.
- Must be Serve Safe certified.
- Must successfully complete TIPS training.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This job may or may not have supervisory responsibilities.
- Support staff development and training programs.
- Assist with rewards and recognition programs to maximize employee engagement.
- Evaluate team members in the department and provide constructive performance feedback.
- Recommend staffing needs (including interviewing and hiring) and support scheduling (planning, assigning, and directing work) to meet business needs.
- Manage work procedures and expedite workflow.
- Provide recommendations for employee performance (disciplining, coaching, and counseling).
