Stewarding Supervisor
Job Description
As a Stewarding Supervisor at Loews New Orleans Hotel, you will lead the stewarding team and help maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and safety throughout all back-of-house areas. This onsite role includes oversight of dishwashing operations, equipment and supply inventories, and compliance with sanitation and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the stewarding team by assigning tasks and ensuring coverage of all responsibilities during each shift.
- Monitor team performance and provide hands-on training, coaching, and feedback to support consistent service excellence.
- Oversee cleaning and sanitation of dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and kitchen equipment to meet Loews standards.
- Ensure dishwashing machines and cleaning equipment are operating efficiently, and report malfunctions promptly for repair.
- Coordinate cleaning for kitchen areas, storage spaces, and back-of-house areas to maintain a spotless and organized environment.
- Enforce proper safety procedures and hygiene protocols to help prevent accidents and contamination.
- Monitor compliance with health department regulations, including food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Assist with inventory management for cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment to keep the department well-stocked and organized.
- Oversee safe handling and storage of cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety standards.
- Collaborate with banquet, culinary, and outlet teams to ensure event equipment such as trays, glassware, and cutlery is prepared and available.
- Support event setup and breakdown by coordinating with banquet and culinary teams for smooth execution.
- Manage the return and proper storage of equipment after events, maintaining accountability and organization.
- Maintain teamwork and a positive work environment that encourages productivity and cooperation.
- Step in to manage day-to-day floor operations in the absence of the Executive Steward or Assistant Executive Steward.
- Attend Banquet Event Order (BEO) meetings as needed and prepare setups according to established standards.
- Provide regular attendance in conformance with standards, including working varying schedules based on business needs.
- Attend all mandatory training sessions and meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a mid-volume stewarding operation within an upscale hotel or restaurant (preferred).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage time efficiently.
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting heavy items, standing for long periods, and operating cleaning equipment.
