Stewarding Supervisor
Job Description
The Stewarding Supervisor oversees daily back-of-the-house standards across Stewarding areas at Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa. This role leads the Stewarding team, supports Operations for Restaurants, Room Service, and Banquet-Kitchen, and coordinates cleanliness, equipment readiness, and cross-department communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Operations in Restaurants, Room Service, and Banquet-Kitchen.
- Assign, direct, and inspect the daily work of all employees assigned to the Stewarding department.
- Organize, maintain, and distribute all equipment used by restaurant departments, including china, glass, silver, and other equipment.
- Inspect work areas and the loading dock daily for maintenance needs, organization, and cleanliness; process work orders when necessary.
- Participate with the Executive Chef regarding the settling of major grievances, while handling minor items as needed on a daily basis.
- Train new hires as assigned.
- Act as a liaison between Stewarding and other F&B supervisors.
- Monitor and order department product through the purchasing department or outside vendors as directed by Executive Steward.
- Attend Banquet guest meetings when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of stain removal and chemical cleaning agents, including the operation of different types of equipment.
- Ability to learn and apply Hazardous Chemical training standards.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Strong attention to cleanliness quality.
- Ability to interpret instructions provided in oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to print and speak simple sentences in English.
- Ability to maintain productive working relationships with other departments, associates, and guests.
- Meet legal age requirements for the position.
- Two to four years of directly related experience within the Stewarding field.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Regular attendance in conformance with hotel standards is essential; irregular attendance may lead to disciplinary action up to termination.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to push and pull equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.
Work Environment
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Noise level is usually moderate.
Grooming
All associates must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance (specific standards are available).
Compensation
$30.00 per hour. The position is eligible for a potential increase after six months.
Schedule and Compliance
- Schedules may vary due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry and business needs.
- Upon employment, associates must fully comply with hotel rules and regulations for safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities.
