Steward

Based in Austin, TX, this onsite Steward role gives you the chance to contribute to a clean, safe kitchen and partner with chefs to support service. You will uphold high food-safety standards, maintain organized work areas, and embody our 1 Hotels Vision, Mission, and Compass through Good-Natured Service and Brand Pillars.

Responsibilities

• Keep kitchen work areas and restaurant equipment in clean and orderly condition according to hotel standards of procedure.
• Operate commercial dishwashing equipment to wash dishes, glassware, utensils, and cookware.
• Sanitize all kitchen surfaces, work areas, and food preparation zones per health department standards.
• Maintain dishwashing machines, ensuring proper chemical levels and temperatures.
• Assist chefs with food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables.
• Stock and organize kitchen supplies, ingredients, and equipment.
• Transport food items and supplies between storage areas, prep zones, and cooking stations.
• Empty trash receptacles and uphold waste disposal areas.
• Clean kitchen equipment including ovens, grills, fryers, and refrigeration units.
• Sweep, mop, and sanitize kitchen floors during shifts.
• Maintain cleanliness of storage areas, walk-in coolers, and freezers.
• Report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to supervisors.
• Receive and properly store food deliveries according to food safety protocols.
• Rotate stock using first-in, first-out principles.
• Monitor inventory levels and notify management of supply needs.
• Ensure proper labeling and dating of stored food items.
• Follow all food safety regulations and hotel health policies.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and maintain personal hygiene standards.
• Complete required food safety training and certifications.
• Support other kitchen staff during peak service times, maintaining organization between meal periods.

Requirements

• Organized and proficient at multitasking.
• Reliable team player willing to learn and adapt to new situations.
• Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, pull and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, and 25 pounds constantly.
• Proficient in verbal and written English communication.
• Able to stand for long periods of time.

Technology

Experience operating commercial dishwashing equipment is required for this role.
