Job Description
The Steward - Banquets position at Hotel Kansas City is responsible for keeping all hotel china, silverware and cookware clean while delivering reliable service in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment. This onsite role in Kansas City, Missouri requires good communication, the ability to lift moderate weight, and the stamina to perform under busy service conditions.
Responsibilities
- Operate the pot-washing and dishwashing machines to ensure clean wares are ready for use.
- Maintain a hygienic workspace in line with hygiene regulations and company standards.
- Perform general cleaning as directed and ensure the correct PPE is worn.
- Sweep, mop, wipe surfaces, and manage trash disposal in a timely manner.
- Clean coolers, freezers, and back hallways to maintain order and sanitation.
- Keep kitchen and back-of-house areas clean, store equipment properly, and follow the cleaning schedule.
- Adhere to Health, Hygiene and Safety guidelines when handling hazardous substances.
- Report maintenance needs or hazards to the supervisor on duty.
- Maintain the kitchen supply of china, glasses and silverware in good condition.
- Assist with plating and dish-out of menu orders when required to support the kitchen team.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Executive Chef and Director of Food and Beverage.
Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of accepted sanitation standards.
- 1 to 2 years of stewarding experience preferred.
- Availability to work nights, weekends and holidays.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English to communicate with colleagues and supervisors.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage busy periods with composure.
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalency is preferred but not required.

Work Environment
- Engage in continuous or repetitive arm and hand movements as part of daily duties.
- Occasionally bend or stoop to reach items in stoves, ovens, refrigerators or freezers.
- Clean work areas and equipment using broom, mop, sponge and cleaning solutions.
- Move objects weighing 20 to 50 pounds over short distances.
- Learn job-related material primarily through on-the-job instruction and observation.

- Stand, walk, and perform essential job functions for extended periods.
