Banquets Steward (Casual)

The Banquets Steward (Casual) role at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel in Waimea, HI supports banquet service operations by maintaining cleanliness, assisting with food and supply movement, and preparing function areas through setup and breakdown tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform general or specialized cleaning and other miscellaneous unskilled tasks.
• Transfer food items and required banquet China, glassware, silverware, and related supplies to the banquet area.
• Support the culinary department with transporting food and supplies to and from the function area, including setup and breakdown of buffet lines.
• Operate dishwashing equipment and store China, silverware, and glassware properly.
• Clean floors, walls, counters, mats, grills, and kitchen equipment.
• Remove and properly discard garbage from kitchens.
• Set up chafers, sternos, utensils, and related items on buffet lines; complete buffet line breakdown.
• Load and transport food, equipment, and supplies to the function area.
• Handle breakdown station duties at functions by separating dishes, silverware, and glassware and organizing them in racks and bus pans for washing.
• Wash pots, pans, and kitchen utensils.
• Clean spills on kitchen, function area, or dining room floors.
• Follow safety policies and procedures, including proper use of cleaning solutions and safe operation of equipment.
• Secure equipment and supplies at the end of each shift.
• Polish silverware, hollowware, chafing dishes, and other silver items.
• Complete assigned work tasks in a timely manner.
• Report equipment that needs repair.
• Assist with inventory of supplies, China, glassware, and silverware.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

Work Schedule and Availability

This casual position requires the ability to work shifts and days determined by the Executive Steward, including the capacity to work in excess of 40 hours per week when needed.

Required Qualifications

• Must have Dept of Health TB Clearance.
• Must be able to multi-task.
• Food Safety Certificate is preferred.
• Must be able to follow verbal instructions.
• Must be able to communicate verbally with other employees and the manager.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk during almost the entire shift.
• Lift and carry up to and/or over 50 lbs.
• Push and pull warmers, carts, and wagons up to and/or over 50 lbs.
• Bend, stoop, and reach to set up buffets, complete cleaning tasks, and operate machines.

Working Conditions
